Alfred “Fred” Thiessen

Lawyer

Fred is a graduate of the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law. The primary focus of Fred’s practice is labour and employment law. Acting for associations, unions and employees, Fred provides advice and assistance in all aspects of labour and employment law, including collective bargaining, arbitrations and adjudications, employment contracts, certifications, unfair labour practices, discipline, terminations and accommodations. Fred’s advocacy has seen him make appearances before all levels of Manitoba Courts, the Federal Court of Canada, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. He routinely appears before arbitration and adjudication panels, the Manitoba Labour Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, and the Manitoba Human Rights Commission.

Professional Activities

Prior to joining Gange Collins & Associates, Fred was a partner at Tapper Cuddy LLP, from 2015 to 2020 and where he served as a managing partner in 2019. He is a member ofthe Canadian Bar Association – Manitoba Labour and Employment Law Section. Fred is also an annual presenter at both the Manitoba Labour Law Review Conference and the Manitoba Accommodation Law Conference. Fred dedicates time to a number of community and legal organizationsand serves as a volunteer Appeals Officer under The Youth Drug Stabilization Act.

Community Activities

Away from the workaday world, Fred and his wife share two passions: scuba diving and exploring the wilds with their Labrador Retrievers, Milly and Jack.
